Trailhead Supply’s decker pack saddles are built, by hand, right here in Montana. Our decker pack saddles are built to pack day in and day out, even in the harshest of conditions. The backbone to any pack saddle is the tree.  We build our trees one at a time by hand in our shop giving every attention to detail.  We cut our bars out of pine harvested in northern Idaho.  Our steel hoops are custom hand forged out of ¾” rolled steel then powder coated.

The half breed is made with 26 ounce canvas, leather bound, and stuffed with a one inch pad. Our decker pack saddles come with oak sideboards. Oak, unlike pine, is a hardwood which resists chipping along the edges therefore tearing and snagging your manties and or panniers is almost nonexistent. The oak sideboards are fit into form fitted Latigo leather pockets that are laced shut, not screwed in place like others. Screw heads will also tear and snag manties and panniers. This halfbreed comes standard with all our deckers. Only Hermann Oak Leather, which is, American hides and American tannage, are used in the construction of these great saddles. The straps are riveted, sewn, and glued at all connection points. We use all roller buckles for easy adjustment. The rigging of our pack saddles is constructed to form a  3 ½ inch rolled latigo breeching to avoid chaffing your pack animal. Four one inch wide quarter straps and a latigo lined spider pad. The breast collar is contoured and lined with a soft latigo leather. The contoured shape helps avoid rubbing your stocks neck and aids in ease of breathing on those long uphill pulls.
