Double Up Decker,  BioThane Pack Saddle by Trailhead Supply

The Double Up Decker is the newest decker pack saddle design from Trailhead Supply.  It’s like two pack saddles in one. We have taken the best features of a sawbuck and integrated them into a decker. We started by hand forging outward facing hooks out of ¾ inch cold roll steel. These hooks are perfect for hanging your pannier straps on making this decker just as easy to load as a sawbuck. With some custom bending, we added an additional benefit below the outward facing hooks we have basically created a tradition style hoop where you can attach your rope and sling loads like any other decker running down the trail.  It is the hybrid of pack saddles.

    Even with all the time and engineering we poured into the new style of hoop, we never forgot the fact that the tree is the backbone of your pack saddle. We build all our trees one at a time by hand in our Kalispell, MT shop giving every attention to detail.  We cut our bars out of kiln dried pine harvested in northern Idaho.  Then just before the bars are fished with a high-quality urethane coating to protect the wood for years to come, we ruff the bottoms up. This ruff texture helps keep your pad from walking out from under your saddle while going down the trail. The ¾” forged hoops like on all Trailhead Supply decker pack saddles are finished with a silver powder coating.

   The half breed is made with a heavy 26-ounce canvas, leather bound, and stuffed with a 5/8 inch padding. Our BioThane®  decker pack saddles half breeds come with pine sideboards, that have been coated with three coats of urethane for a tough, long lasting, great looking finish. The pine sideboards are fit into form fitted pockets that are laced shut, not screwed in place like others. Screw heads will tear and snag manties and panniers. This halfbreed comes standard with all our BioThane®  deckers.

   The rigging of our BioThane®  pack saddles is constructed from BioThane®. What is BioThane®  ? BioThane® Is a polyester webbing with a TPU or PVC coating that makes it more durable, cleanable, stronger and easier to maintain than leather. BioThane®  is manufactured in the USA.  The Breeching and Breast collar are cut from three inch wide BioThane® The rigging straps are 1 ¼ inch strap and the quarter and breast collar straps are one inch. The straps are riveted at all connection points using #9 copper rivets. We use all roller buckles for easy adjustment. Hardware is available in stainless steel, solid brass, nickel and brass plated.The Doublle Up Decker along with all of Trailhead Supply’s deckers are made right here in our Kalispell Montana shop, USA
