I thought I would give Andy the week off from the blog due to both Jesse and him playing catch up on manufacturing during tradeshow season. For those of you that don't know me, I'm Sydney Paine the other half of Trailhead Supply, Andy's business partner, and youngest daughter. One of my favorite parts about camping, packing, and being in the wilderness is the food! I have a sweet tooth that puts most people to shame. My riding horse Jackie loves butterscotch, and my backup riding horse Sis loves to share red licorice with me any chance she gets. They both know to go for my pockets because I always have something stashed away for them to nibble on.
As the snow finally melts and riding season is slowly coming here in NW Montana I have found my mind drifting to new recipe ideas. While my dad is normally camp cook, I tend to be in charge of one of the most important meals, which is dinner at the trail head. I work full time on top of working at Trailhead, so I tend to be more of a weekend warrior. The Friday night meal at the trail head, which is normally served under the ambiance of a headlamp kicks off our trip so, it has to be done right! We sell so many cookbooks at the store so I started flipping through them yesterday to get some new ideas. I opened two cookbooks "Dump Cakes" and "Dump & Bake Desserts" easy recipes that all look delicious. I want to try every single one! Simple recipes that I can make ahead, or make at camp. So, I thought what better way then to have a battle of the recipes?!? I flipped each book open to a random page and now I need your help to decide. The two recipes are:
From Dump Cakes: A Pineapple Cherry Cake
From Dump & Bake Desserts: A Skillet Sugar Cookie (made in a cast iron pan)
Comment below with a vote for which recipe you would like me to whip up. I will post an update on my baking experience and a review of the winning recipe. While you are at it, feel free to post your favorite trail dessert recipe. I would love to add more to my collection.
Have trails, and remember it's ok to have dessert first!
