Junk In The Trunk
I hear the
argument every time a couple comes into the store and its time to pay, the wife
puts this huge purse up on the counter and rummages through it looking for her
wallet. The husband normally pops off
and says something to the affect of I don’t know why she needs that big old
thing I keep everything I need right here in my pocket. He never offers to pay,
but now the wife needs to justify everything she has dug out and placed on the
counter. Here is the new picture of the
kids and their new dog, oh look did I tell you we got a bay out of that old
gray mare, color swatches they are going to paint the guest room, and then I
normally get offered a stick of gum before the transaction is complete. Me, I don’t even carry a wallet its somewhere
in the pickup if I didn’t take it out for something, and If I did Lord only
knows where I left it. That’s normally a two to three day ordeal to find it
again. The only reason I need to find it
is my credit card is in there so I can fuel up that economy F350 dully I
drive. But that all changes when you
saddle your horse or mule. Everyone male
or female has a need to bring everything they own. We all become boy scouts or something. I
don’t get it we tie on saddle bags, cantle bags, hell we just tie stuff on to
tie stuff on. The horse is groaning
before you even swing into the saddle.
It’s ok to be prepared, its not a bad thing at all. Enjoying a cold beverage and a big old
sandwich on top of some ridge is a great thing.
Just remember one thing… right at about the back edge of your saddle is
that animals kidneys. Not the best place to pile on a lot of weight. So, here is a thought use horn bags they are
convenient to get into while riding it reduces that pile of stuff tied on
behind the saddle. Therefore, making it easier to swing your leg over the saddle. Best of all it gets the weight off the kidney
and up on those big powerful front shoulders.
Go have a safe ride on that now happy horse. See you on the trail! Andy
